Digital Projects With Purpose
Our Digital Storytelling Teacher Training Trips prepare educators to instruct their students to make meaningful short films, blogs, and photography projects in the field. Learn from nationally award-winning cinema and journalism instructors who have experience managing successful filmmaking groups of students on location.
Teachers are guided through the process of teaching students to produce multi-media stories, both in their own communities and abroad. Training includes practical use of hand-held media to create compelling content. Learn how to secure subject interviews with empathy, and capture the experience of unique cultures first-hand. Digital project distribution strategies and the process of film festival submission allows for effective amplification of students’ voices.
But I’m not a video teacher
Whether you teach math, science, or humanities, our workshops assume participants have no previous experience with digital media literacy. By making your own project, you will learn the basic technical and storytelling elements of powerful narratives that resonate with audiences. Participants learn to apply digital storytelling processes in the classroom and communities for effective filmmaking leadership.
In our daily workshops, teachers acquire skills and practical exercises in the following units:
-Research with Purpose
-Journalism Fundamentals
-Interviews with Integrity
-Ethics of Digital Reporting
-Techniques to Hook and Hold an Audience
-Easy Script Writing Formula
-Video Production Techniques
-Photography captioning
-Editing Basics
-Distribution Strategies
FACTS MATTER:
Now more than ever, the ability to critically assess digital media is central to our democratic health. Securing solutions to important issues of equality, conflict and peace requires informed minds. Innovative answers to human and environmental problems begin with courageous truth-telling. As Bob Woodward of the Washington Post has quoted from a judicial opinion on the first amendment: “Democracy dies in darkness.” Journalism is the first draft of history. We teach you how to empower your students to find their voices and shape the future for good.
